Open Textbooks

An open textbook is a textbook licensed under an open copyright license, and made available online to be freely used, adapted and distributed. Open textbooks are a part of the Open Access and the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement, and are freely accessible, openly licensed documents and media that are useful for teaching, learning, and assessing, as well as for research purposes.

The goal of the B.C. Open Textbook Project is to provide flexible and affordable access to openly licensed textbooks. Their textbooks are openly licensed using a Creative Commons license and are offered in various e-book formats free of charge. Open Textbooks are open educational resources (OER); they are instructional resources created and shared in ways so that more people have access to them.
